The Firework Chronicles-Part 4

Here we are again-we are getting very close to the Fright Nights.

Many thousands of dogs are affected and I have heard presenters on the radio questioning why one of the MP's is pushing for new laws to ban fireworks that are louder than a lawnmower and restrict sales to only licensed shops. (Many presenters seem to think it is a waste of time and are sniffy about it)

Hurrah for this positive news -I don't care what hue or party the MP is -in fact Sarah Owen is Labour but she could be a member of the Starfleet Enterprise as far as I am concerned because it is about time that someone listened to the concerns that many people have about the suffering that loud fireworks cause-not only to dogs but many other animals plus war veterans

In the meantime we can put some support in place for our dogs

  • Do be proactive-find out when the largest displays are on which are local to you

  • Do get medication from your vet

  • There are things worth trying including Pet Remedy.

  • Do take calm walks with your dog on the days leading up to during, and AFTER the fireworks. If your dog has adrenaline running around their body the resulting anxiety will be much worse

  • I know people do take their dogs away but you can pack some nice food and drink and treats for your dog, put them in your car and drive somewhere quiet and away from the noise of the exploding skies. This may not seem very practical but it is far better than watching the distress that the fireworks bring.

Many people search for the "one solution" let me tell you there isn't one BUT if you can use medication, be mindful of exercise and cook something yummy which smells amazing and you can all try settling down with full stomachs and a favourite film, and have some success with non stop music or white noise then you can MINIMISE your dogs distress

This is a life changer-so don't dismiss the previous posts I have written in the last month.

We may not be able to solve things completely but we can minimise some of the distress

I do have a factsheet if you would like it-please DM me if you would like a copy of it
